Cryptocurrency addiction

Ludomania is a pathological addiction to gambling and gambling addiction. Uncontrolled trading on the exchange is called cryptocurrency dependence (not to be confused with crypto-mania – the tendency to hide thoughts and intentions, to make everything secret), is equated with ludomania and treated with similar methods. How to determine that a person is dependent on cryptocurrencies is described in this material.

How is cryptocurrency addiction different from luck games

Cryptocurrency trading is accompanied by access to a set of analytical data, which are divided into global analytics and charts. Access to data is open – the Internet is regularly updated with reviews and articles on the prospects for cryptocurrencies. Charts and graphs give a false sense of control, which gamblers do not have. The latter press the buttons in the hope of favor of good luck. A trader loses his investment as a result of a false signal or his own failed assumption, and the player knows that he is out of luck. The trader returns to transactions in the hope of correcting his mistake, and the player with each new approach to roulette hopes to increase the chance of winning.

Sitting at the computer all day, the trader makes a profit or loses money. Such an occupation robs him of communication with the real world and puts him into a state of obsession. This is what gamblers strive for. Profit is not so important for them, but the repetition of certain actions that induce a state of emotional recovery.

The niche of sports betting, like trading, is regularly replenished by new recruits. Sport is one of the most popular topics for discussion, and most people have attended sections or are active amateur athletes. The obtained minimum amount of knowledge and skills gives the illusion of control over the outcome of various competitions. More advanced analysts study in-depth statistics and use special programs. Both of them make bets based on the available information, but they can only rely on the win provided by the odds of the bookmaker. There is no such ceiling in exchange trading – it is never exactly known how many percents of profit it can give.

The prospects for cryptocurrency trading look even more vivid, as they already gave thousands of X in the shortest periods of time. This fact connects crypto trading with the ability to get rich without having thousands of dollars at the start. Fiat trading can be compared to cryptocurrency trading as a dependency on marijuana and heroin.

Cryptocurrency Dependence – Only a Subtype of Ludomania

The connection between crypto addiction, gambling, and sports betting is observed on the forums of ludomania. The abridged history of one of the users of the forum is given:

The guy is 26 years old, introduced as Amir. He has a full-fledged family with a one and a half-year-old daughter, grandparents, and great-grandmothers. The guy is a workaholic from an early age and has been working in a bank for 7 years. Earns 36,000 rubles + additional unstable income. From the age of 17, he played poker, making bets for $ 10. At first, there were victories, but then a series of defeats followed. The guy blocked all accounts for 5 years and tied up with poker.

Then Amir drew attention to a friend who made good money on bets with odds from 1.4 to 2. I tried to bet on 500 rubles and everything went well until he came across games like a fool, 21, etc. in the same BC. P. He borrowed money from relatives in cryptocurrency (at that time 135,000 rubles + 40,000 of his own) to trade on the exchange. Along with studying the crypto world, the guy was looking for algorithms to bypass the logic of the computer in the game “Fool”, but the machine turned out to be smarter. As a result, Amir lost all the trusted money.

Then the forum member sold his car and bought cryptocurrency to continue trading. The part left for wagering in the game “21”. As a result, he leaked everything, including salary. I had to borrow from a friend 15,000 r for accommodation, but they were also lost.

The author of the story writes that he feels completely broken, demoralized, without a clue what is happening to him and how to deal with it. Amir has an unpleasant external and internal state, cannot look into the eyes of relatives – a complete dead end. He realizes the severity of what is happening, understands that he must return the money of the family, car and trust. Even more, pressing on him is the fact that the lost cryptocurrency at the time of writing the post in December 2017 already cost more than 400,000 rubles.

Cryptocurrency Trading Symptoms

Signs differ from symptoms of ludomania only in the subject of addiction. Many of the following symptoms are also consistent with substance abuse.

  1. Spending an unreasonable amount of time on cryptocurrency trading channels to the detriment of other activities.
  2. Lack of sports exercises, poor personal hygiene, and nutrition.
  3. When moving away from cryptocurrency trading, anger appears, mood swings, depression, sleep problems, nervousness.
  4. Lies regarding the frequency and involvement of friends and family in trading.
  5. The appearance of large debts.
  6. The development of poor self-esteem – for example, labeling yourself as a “loser”.
  7. Social exclusion, career problems and the loss of close friends.

In this case, some symptoms can be logically justified by patients:

The waste of time is explained by the constant need to monitor the crypto market. There are such cases when a person subconsciously wants to look at charts, getting satisfaction from his work, although in many cases it is successfully replaced by stop-loss and bots.

Social isolation is explained by the need to spend time monitoring the market. The sick person often breaks old good relations with friends, as he is ashamed of his actions or feels inferior in the company with successful comrades.

Poor hygiene appears due to the fact that there is no reason to look decent – leaving the house is required only for going to the store. With the constant loss of money, a person almost does not care what he looks like and he also forgets about playing sports. Interestingly, sports very often help cleanse the brain, but the disease seems to repel physical activity.

A person himself can understand that he is sick if he begins to lie. If there is nothing to lie for, then he is either not sick or admits his dependence. Awareness of the disease almost never comes without the loss of large sums of money.

Cryptocurrency addiction is treatable in Russia

In such cases, clinics offer outpatient therapy sessions that are performed at least once a week.

Cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy is applied to patients. Some patients need to limit the management of their finances and access to tools for trading: computer, telephone, etc. Ultimately, the patient himself must recognize that he is sick and develop a new approach to life.
